British Railways era (mid 20th century) railway station ladies room sign, maroon colour as typically seen in the London Midland region of the nationalised railway. Original – Ladies Room, red, enamel, excellent Condition (Used). Dimensions: 18 x 24 x 1 inch. 46cm x 61cm x 2.5cm deep. This lovely’Ladies Room’ British Railways enamel sign comes from the Midlands Region (identifiable by it’s maroon background color). The British Railways enamel signs are very iconic and combine simple, clear typography with a well proportioned, rounded edged shape. This sign is single sided – it would have originally been back to back with a matching sign so that it could have hung from the middle of the platform/station and been visible on both sides. This now hangs neatly against a wall. The sign remains in excellent condition – retains a lovely deep color and gloss to the enamel – there are a couple of minor areas of chipping as per the photos.
