A lovely “Jones Sewing Machines” enamel sign is in “as found” condition. “The Jones Sewing Machine Company”, was founded in 1859, and famed for its large factory in Manchester and claimed to be the largest in the UK manufacturing sewing machines. The sign has the inevitable enamel losses and nibbles to the edges and mounting holes and there has been some old re-painting in four places, on the right side of the bow, by the “ES” in Jones and on the edge of the right side and bottom, there are also the scuffs, scratches and rust marks that you would expect from an item of this age and use. But the white, red and black detailing, as well as the raised lettering and logo have retained a fair depth of colour. I have tried to show the condition in the photographs. This super sign makes a great display item and is a wonderful piece of sewing machine history. It measures 51 cm (20 inches) by 38 (15 inches). This sign will still display well.
