This is an original vintage, extra large French blue and white metal enamel street road sign in a well used condition with signs of age and previous life as expected and in keeping with an original French used sign. This enamel street name sign was bought at a traditional French brocante market and would suit a retro style home or look great in a man cave, garage or garden. These are usually much smaller than this one which is extra large measuring 60cm x 40cm. The usual signs are 45cm x 25cm. This refers to Antoine Lavoisier who was a French nobleman and chemist often referred to as the Father of Modern Chemistry. He was central to the 18th-century chemical revolution and who had a large influence on both the history of chemistry and the history of biology. Lavoisier is most noted for his discovery of the role oxygen plays in combustion. He named oxygen (1778), recognizing it as an element, and also recognized hydrogen as an element (1783), opposing the phlogiston theory. Lavoisier helped construct the metric system, wrote the first extensive list of elements, and helped to reform chemical nomenclature. As such, this would be an inspired gift for any chemist or chemistry student. All the items we sell are used or vintage and will show signs of a previous life. This is part of their unique French shabby chic appeal. Measures 60cm x 40cm x 2cm. Unpacked weight 3.65kg.
