Original Famous Iconic Advertising Enamel Sign. Portland cement was developed from natural cements made in Britain beginning in the middle of the 18th century. Its name is derived from its similarity to Portland stone, a type of building stone quarried on the Isle of Portland in Dorset, England. M odern Portland cement (sometimes called ordinary or normal Portland cement) began in 1756. Original large vintage Portland cement enamel advertising sign from 1950/60’s, really fine example of an early heavy well made sign. Portland were one of the leading builders famous names for cement, the sign is in very good condition for age with good gloss, bold colours and only light age wear, measurement size of 24″ inches high by 18″ inches wide.
