Vintage 1920s Ferndon Green Lawn Tennis Co Albermarle St London W1 (Mayfair) Enamel Metal Sign. Once in a while a very rare sign comes along and this is one of those. Totally unique and in the hard to find subject matter of Tennis, the enamel sign reads. The Ferndon Green Hard Tennis Court (patent) – The Hard Tennis Court Co. Abermarle Street London W1. In the bottom right corner is shows the maker “Franco Signs London W1″ a well known enamel sign maker around in the 1920s/30s until WW2. The sign offers plenty of scope for research, both into the company and the MAFAIR area it was situated. The colour of the sign is orange with black lettering and would look great with a large framed border around the edges, particularly to tie in to a background wall colour scheme. Sixe 36″ x 24″ (92cm wide x 61cm high). A very rare survivor from the 1920s/30s made by FRANCO signs London W1 – it has wear/damage around the edges particularly the top left and the corner holes are no longer there – there is some lose of enamel across parts of the sign – there are 2 small holes in the centre of the sign seen more so from the back (the reverse of which are shown in pictures 12 & 13) – The sign would look particularly good if framed around the edges in a colour to match the wall against which it would sit. An incredibly Rare, totally unique and 100% Original enamel sign perfectly suited for the Tennis enthusiast – a real talking point!
