An enamel advertising sign for Imperial Mandarin Tea. A beautiful & very early advertising sign, double sided in thick, blue on white enamel, the lettering in a charming font typical of the Late Victorian era. Dimensions: W: 41cm (16.1″)H: 15cm (5.9″)D: 2.5cm (1). Wear commensurate with age, beautiful time worn condition, much of the flange is absent though the remaining section does have a single hole suitable for wall mounting. Large Original target/ bullseye London Underground Enamel Sign for Wood Green. Size is 149 x 103 cm aprox. This sign is pre war, dating from around the 1930s, It is in surprisingly good condition with only a few small areas of enamel loss. Still has great colour and shine. Very rare that these come up available for sale as there were only a limited number made unlike other early advertising signs. A large blue on white enamel Shaving Saloon sign. A striking, unique & early sign and a brilliant piece of social history in a wonderful colour-way with some fantastic traditional typography. Named after,’The Better Ole’ also know as,’The Romance of Old Bill’, An Edwardian musical comedy & accompanying book by Bruce Bairnsfather and Arthur Elliot featuring the cartoon character infantryman Old Bill. While in the trenches, Old Bill at some point told one of his troops, who were complaining about conditions, that if they knew of a’better ole’ to go to it (as per last image). Hugely popular at the time, the shaving saloon was named after the cartoon.. 122cm x 61cm approx. Wear commensurate with age, unrestored with a decent gloss as pictured.
