An early opticians’s trade sign. A wonderful 19th century, double sided, hand painted timber trade sign, delightfully original & untouched with the perfect patina. The gilding is entirely original, as is the surrounding paintwork with a pleasing subtle craquelure finish. Finished with the sign writers name,’Tom Billinton’, to the lower edge & with two original hanging hooks to the top to hang. An exceptional & handsome example. 80cm x 44cm x 7cm. Wear commensurate with age, very good condition overall showing minor signs of it’s past making it what is is today, non structural crack running across one side & a slight bow, just as it should be. Two hooks to the top which can be used to hang it or removed for a flush wall mount. The faded gold paintwork is entirely original, as are the mounting brackets to either end, one of which would have been attached to the building, the other to a length of chain. A late Victorian advertising stick stand. An exceptionally rare surviving piece of advertising, this cast iron stick stand would have been fixed to a wall outside a shop & used for cutomers to put their walking sticks & umbrellas in whilst inside. The top is adorned with a plaque advertising Sunlight Soap & the drip tray base promotes Lifebouy Soap and Royal Disinfectant, all early products produced by Lever Brothers. A wonderful piece of history that could still be used today. 74cm x 36cm x 16cm. A wonderful antique timber advertising sign for’Holland’s Furniture Cream’. A beautiful & rare survivor with deep v-carved & gilded lettering on thick pine. The sign would have once been part of the interior at the iconic Arighi Bianchi department store in Macclesfield which was founded in the mid 19th century & remains trading to this day. A wonderful, early antique cast iron & enamel advertising bowl for Hudsons Soap. This beautiful early & novel piece of advertising was once commonplace outside grocers stores & filled with water for passing dogs. In thick, heavy cast iron with raised lettering, retaining traces of original paint & an enamel lining with the charming & iconic’Drink Puppy Drink’ slogan adorning the end panels. One of the most reproduced pieces of advertising out there, so nice to come across an original! Late 19th / early 20th century. Around 41cm x 20cm x 18cm. Wear commensurate with age as pictured, beautifully aged with no structural damage, major loss to the enamel lining though remains watertight.
