53 x 34.5cm. Original vintage FIRE GATE No 1 metal sign – Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire barn find. An unusual old British RAF access sign with painted lettering reading: FIRE GATE No 1 The sign was discovered in an old barn in the Aylesbury area of Buckinghamshire. The sign has several fixing holes and is very heavily weathered, with extensive genuine surface oxidation and rust, paint loss, pitting, edge deterioration, areas of metal loss and some bending/distortion. Despite the considerable weathering, the original FIRE GATE No 1 lettering remains clearly visible. The exact site from which this sign originally came is unknown. However, research shows that numbered “Fire Gates” were used as designated emergency access points around British airfields during the WW2 era. The fact that this example was found in a barn in the Aylesbury area is interesting because Buckinghamshire had a number of important wartime and post-war RAF/military aviation sites. Completely unrestored/as-found condition, just a light coat of oil to stop any further rust. Please examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description and show the condition in detail. A very atmospheric piece of original vintage RAF interest and known Aylesbury-area barn-find provenance.

Please feel free to make me an offer. A nice Reproduction Enamel Metal Sign stating “Antiques”. This is a Modern Reproduction however it’s still a very nice enamel metal sign for the your home, man cave, shop or barn. Approx 20″ long by 6″ wide & quite thick metal & enamel at about 2 mm thick. Despite it being new it’s not a thin light weight tin item but fairly heavy & thick. You see them where the enamel around the holes has been damaged to try & make them look old. Obviously an old original would be extremely expensive. In expected used but good condition for an item of this age. It’s a little warped however this wouldn’t matter when it’s screwed to a wall, beam or door. Please study the images as they also form part of the description & please do your own research.
