An early opticians’s trade sign. A wonderful 19th century, double sided, hand painted timber trade sign, delightfully original & untouched with the perfect patina. The gilding is entirely original, as is the surrounding paintwork with a pleasing subtle craquelure finish. Finished with the sign writers name,’Tom Billinton’, to the lower edge & with two original hanging hooks to the top to hang. An exceptional & handsome example. 80cm x 44cm x 7cm. Wear commensurate with age, very good condition overall showing minor signs of it’s past making it what is is today, non structural crack running across one side & a slight bow, just as it should be. Two hooks to the top which can be used to hang it or removed for a flush wall mount. William Hobé was the son of a master goldsmith, Jaques Hobé, and it’s fair to say like father, like son. Becoming a master jeweler himself, William opened his own company “Hobé Cie” in American to produce extravagant costumes and jewelry. Williams first commission in the US came in the mid-1920s from Florence Ziegfeld where he produced costumes and costume jewelry for Broadway productions. William’s success with Ziegfeld opened the doors to many other Hollywood theater companies and film studios. In the panorama of American costume jewelry manufacturers, Hobé is known as a producer of luxury items – jewelry with an antique flavor, rich with extremely brilliant crystals connected by filigreed motifs, and wrought with the skill and proficiency of a master craftsman. During the forties, Hobé jewels were promoted by the most beloved stars with the catchy slogan Jewels of Legendary Splendor. Apart from the jewelry designed by Lou Vici, who worked for the company from the 1930s to the 70s, all Hobé pieces were designed by members of the Hobé family. A beautiful original antique advertising sign for’Turog Bread’ of monumental proportions. A stunning & very rare antique sign, the carved wooden lettering & lower board in all original gilt paint, supported by some wonderful ironwork. These signs would hang outside independant bakeries assigned with making the Turog loaves using Turog flour supplied by the company. Turog Brown Flour Company was launched at the turn of the century & was one of the main competitors to Hovis for’healthy’ brown bread until the mid 20th century. An exceptional piece of advertising. 198cm x 60cm approx. Wear commensurate with age, in wonderful, untouched original condition with a ouple of age related crcks to the lettering as highlighted. This is an old antique signed Czechoslovakia on necklace and earrings set from older estate. They came together and look great together but are not an exact set. The screw on 2 1/2 dangle earrings features a mounting with fleur de lis prongs and has tear drop faceted pink crystal stones and glass dangles. One earring has a tiny nick on centers stone edge seen with loupe and the mounting is slightly bent. A jeweler could reshape it if it bothered you. It is signed on a cartouche on back mounting inner rim. The necklace is 17″ and has a 1″ by 2 center medallion. The center has a 3 1/4 drop and features white enamel pansy like flowers that is missing some of the center pink rhinestones. Replace the stones and this would be an excellent necklace. Has nice gold gilt filigree and is also signed Czech on pendant back side. Great set in nice condition.
