Probably one of the rarest signs I have ever come across. It measure 227mm x 40mm and manufactured from solid copper and glass. A class item (and class items are never cheap). Beautiful sign made from solid copper with enamel lettering. The letters are cut into the solid copper and then the gaps filled with glass frits (powdered glass) then fired in a kiln. Well certainly in sign manufacture. Due to the fact that you can get a plastic sign printed out for pennies – and they look so. Of course, nowadays cheap plastic signs are everywhere – even on (and in) old historic buildings and heritage sites. Personally, being an ardent collector of vintage signage I hate to see cheap plastic signs in such places and cannot suppress a shudder when I do. I suppose this is why quality made old vintage signs are so rare these days – they’ve become collectors items and consequently command high prices.

Here is a large collection of 67 vintage enamel and copper letters. The majority of the letters are approximately 2 inches high. A number of the letters have damage to the enamel/ceramic but, in my opinion, this does not distract from their appearance and would make a great addition to any collection for anyone who loves vintage signage. They are perfect for an advertising display or for use in a creative project. They would make a great gift for anyone who loves vintage advertising or wants to add some character to their home or office. These letters are a must-have for any collector or enthusiast. Pierre BONNET of Limoges, France, is considered as the ” le Meilleur Ouvrier de France – MOF” (the best enamel artist) amongst contemporary ateliers. So, he signed his paintings with the three letters MOF. This painting depicts with a great sensitivity a little bridge over a mountain stream with warm colours. The lacquered frame measures 11,61″x 13,58″. The actual enamel over copper artwork measures 4,80″ x 6,89″. The frame of this painting has a small chip in the top left cornered (see pic attached). The title of Meilleur Ouvrier de France (shortened to MOF) is a unique and prestigious award in France according to category of trades in a contest among professionals.
