ANGLO – AMERICAN OIL CO LTD was formed in 1888 and by the early 1900’s was importing motor spirit in to the U. Under the brand name of “Pratt’s”. In 1935 “Pratt’s” products became “ESSO”. The sign has the usual areas of enamel loss and “nibbles” to the edges and the mounting holes, as well as patchy area of loss towards the middle of the sign. It also has the usual scuffs and scratches that you would expect from an item of this age and use. They don’t detract at all from the piece however, in fact adding to it’s impact. Due to it’s size the sign naturally wishes to bow but easily rectified when mounted. The yellow background and stylish red and black shadow lettering still have a good depth of colour and gloss. The sign is very large and measures. 180 cm (72 inches) long and 90cm (36 inches) high. This is a good example of a classic piece of British automotive signage which would make a huge impact in a wide variety of settings. Please note the sign is heavy but will be packaged to protect it in transit. I’m happy to help load this end if you’re collecting but you may need someone at the other end of your journey to help you unload.
